For 2020, I am organising some very exciting photography workshops to some of the best landscape locations in the world. All details, including brochures, itineraries, dates, prices and conditions for each of the tours can be seen below. The workshops have been designed for anyone with a keen interest in travel and nature photography and a sense of adventure. Most workshops will be focused on landscape photography but there will also be opportunities to photograph other subjects such as architecture and people.

I work with some of the best photography instructors all over the world. Unlike many other workshops, our tours are fully devoted to the pursuit of photography. We are actually not a tour in the traditional sense of the word, our goal is to be at the right spot at the right time and to provide an incredible photography experience.

All levels of photographers are welcomed, from the absolute beginner to the experienced photographer. We will assist you out in the field with the camera skills needed to capture those incredible moments. Regardless of your level and your camera equipment, you will improve your skills as a photographer and you will learn the craft with an expert team.

"The March 2014 Patagonia workshop was an excellent way for me to get to some of the best photographic locations in Patagonia. Secondly, the workshop enabled me to capture great landscapes and associated flora and fauna images. Thirdly, it enabled me to learn and increase my technical and creative skills in photography with subject matter experts. The workshop’s facilitators provided ongoing advice, support and ideas that challenged my way of thinking when photographing as well as providing me an almost encyclopaedic reference of new and relevant information to develop my photographic knowledge and skills. An enjoyable and very educational trip!"

“If you are looking for a wonderful photographic adventure led by the internationally renowned photographers Ignacio Palacios and Peter Eastway, this is the trip to do. The southern part of South America with its huge variety of scenery can be a photographer’s paradise: desert-like plains, snow-capped mountains, stunning glaciers and glacial lakes – all crying out to be photographed. And with the support and helpful comments from people like Ignacio and Peter – photographers at the top of their profession – this was indeed a workshop not be missed. A terrific experience – thank you!”

“In April 2015 I was very fortunate to experience the wilds of Patagonia – Patagonia in autumn is extraordinary.  We were treated to perfect autumn weather – every one of the major peaks we visited, Torres del Paine, Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torro, were clearly visible as we stood before the magnificence of these amazing natural structures. And on our visits to Grey Glacier and Perito Moreno we had near perfect conditions – a rarity, especially for Perito Moreno, which is only clear on five days of every year. This brilliant photography tour was led by Ignacio Palacios and Richard I’Anson. I cannot express my gratitude enough to both for their absolute professionalism, generosity in terms of their time and willingness to share their expertise and for making this such a fun and exciting experience.”

“This was a fantastic photography adventure, one of the best I have experienced. What a treat to have the guidance of Ignacio Palacios and Richard I’Anson. Their different approaches to capturing images and post processing provided a rich learning environment and prompted useful discussions and personal reflection. The itinerary was designed to maximize optimal lighting conditions for sunrise and sunset which in Patagonia is breathtaking. Lower tourist numbers at that time of the year made travel easier and gave us more time for a pisco sour or two. Getting up close and personal with magnificent glaciers, staying in a refugio, waiting for early light to hit the peaks, long hikes amidst the colours of autumn in El Chaltén and marveling at the most magic cloud formations were just a few of the highlights.”

"I went to Patagonia with Ignacio in March of 2018.  This was my third workshop with him.  The first two were outstanding but this one was even more outstanding. His selection of the right spots to get the best shots were perfect. He would always take us to several spots to photograph the same landscape  from different prospectives.  Each location  offered the possibility of an award winning picture. I came back from this trip with so many best shots.   When I showed my pictures to my friends they would say you got some really unbelievable shots. What made the difference was the composition Ignacio help me select. I’m really looking forward to my next workshop with him."

Snow Leopards and Tigers Safari, February/March 2020

Snow Leopards and Tigers Safari, February/March 2020

The Snow Leopard Expedition with Ignacio Palacios is an incredible opportunity to spot elusive Snow Leopards in the wild, using the same trackers and guides as BBC’s Planet Earth II. The expedition is based deep in Hemis National Park in Ladakh, with one of the world’s highest concentration of snow leopards.

The high reaches of the Ladakh Range are prime territory for the magnificent Snow Leopard. As the winter sets in and the snow line descends, these shy and elusive creatures move down to lower altitudes in search of their prey, the bhairal, urial, and the arghali, the mountain sheep and antelope of this region. We’ll explore Hemis National Park on daily treks with our expert spotters Khenrab and Namgyal to spot and track snow leopards on this once-in-a-lifetime snow leopard tour.

This 14 day adventure starts off with a day in Delhi before we head up to the high mountains of Ladakh. A few easy days of sightseeing initially allows us to gently acclimatize to the 10,000+ foot altitude of Leh. After that we head off on a short trek to a small village within the national park. Here we’ll be hosted in camps and village homes that will afford us warm shelter on cold winter nights and be our base as we explore the nearby area in search of the ghost of the mountains. If you prefer riding over hiking, a horse can be arranged for the 3 hour hike from the road-head to camp.

Hemis National Park is India’s largest conservation area with over 1,700 square miles of territory. The park lies within the Karakoram-West Tibetan Plateau alpine steppe ecoregion, and contains pine forests, alpine shrublands and meadows, and alpine tundra. Most reports indicate that the park is home to a large breeding population of snow leopards mainly in the Rumbak and Matho area. We go above and beyond to make your trip memorable.

Along with the Snow Leopard the Park is home to Argali (Great Tibetan Sheep), Bharal (Blue Sheep), Shapu (Ladakhi Urial), and some domesticated yaks. A small population of the Asiatic Ibex is also present in Hemis. Other predators besides the snow leopard include the Eurasian lynx, Tibetan wolf, the Eurasian brown bear (endangered in India), and the red fox. Small mammals include the Himalayan marmot, mountain weasel, and the Himalayan mouse hare.

The park is a good place to study Himalayan and Trans-Himalayan birds of prey including the golden eagle, the lammergeier vulture, and the Himalayan griffon vulture. The Rumbak Valley offers good opportunities for birdwatching, including several Tibetan species not common in other parts of India. Birds present here include brown accentor, robin accentor, Tickell’s leaf warbler, streaked rosefinch, Tibetan snowfinch, chukar, fork-tailed swift, red-billed chough, Himalayan snowcock, and the fire-fronted serin.

Who should go on this photographic tour?

Anyone with a keen interest in wildlife and landscape photography and a sense of adventure. In this workshop we will focus on lwildlife photography but there will also be opportunities to photograph landscapes in the National Parks as well as portraits of locals and temples around Leh. The tour has a maximum group size of participants.

Svalbard, The High Arctic, Ice and Bear Winter Expedition, with Ken Duncan. 23 April - 1 May 2020 - ONLY 4 SPOTS LEFT

Svalbard, The High Arctic, Ice and Bear Winter Expedition, with Ken Duncan. 23 April - 1 May 2020 - ONLY 4 SPOTS LEFT

I am teaming up with Ken Duncan to run a photography workshop in Svalbard, in April 2020. Places are limited to 12 participants and there are only 4 spots left.

This place will take your breath away...

Svalbard is a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean situated north of mainland Europe about midway between continental Norway and the North Pole. It features an Arctic climate, although with significantly higher temperatures than other areas at the same latitude. The flora takes advantage of the long period of midnight sun to compensate for the polar night. It is a breeding ground for many seabirds, and also features polar bears, reindeer, the Arctic fox, and certain marine mammals. Seven national parks and twenty-three nature reserves cover two-thirds of the archipelago, protecting the largely untouched, yet fragile, natural environment. Approximately 60% of the archipelago is covered with glaciers, and the islands feature many mountains and fjords.

Itinerary and Dates

The focus on this expedition will be Arctic winter light, landscape and wildlife. In April the light conditions on Svalbard are magical. The plan is to visit the western and northern areas of Spitsbergen. Usually winter trips to Svalbard are limited to snowmobiles quite close to Longyearbyen. With our expedition ship we will explore a much bigger area. We expect to meet wildlife like polar bears, walruses, seals and reindeer. Polar bears and walrus are not as numerous as in summer time, mostly because there is more ice to hide on in winter, but we’ve had some great encounters on our winter expeditions in the past. The seabirds are getting back to their breeding grounds.

The group size is limited to 12 participants plus two photography instructors and our guides giving us plenty of space and time to explore and to photograph the magical Arctic winter.

23 April - 1 May 2020

The trip includes all nights onboard the M/S Origo, all meals onboard, expedition leader, guide, guards and other personnel as well as all excursions with two zodiacs.

Who should go on this photographic tour?

Anyone with a keen interest in travel and nature photography and a sense of adventure. In this workshop we will focus on both landscape and wildlfie photography.

The Registration Form must be filled in and signed by each participant at the time of paying the first deposit.

The Silk Route, Central Asia (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan) - September / October 2020

The Silk Route, Central Asia (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan) - September / October 2020

Central Asia is a region that sparks curiosity, intrigue, and adventure. An expedition across Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will take you across borders, over high mountain passes, and into remote communities, all while growing your photography skills.

You will see this iconic land at its best and if your partner is not a keen photographer, we would invite you to bring her/him along as you will both enjoy the rich photo opportunities as well as an amazing cultural experience and natural wonders.

With its beautiful light, wild landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Central Asia will feed the imagination of any traveler/ photographer.

Kyrgyzstan is a rugged Central Asian country along the Silk Road, the ancient trade route between China and the Mediterranean. The Tian Shan mountains, which surround the old caravan route and dominate the country, are home to snow leopards, lynx and sheep. In the south, the millennia-old city of Osh has a huge, busy bazaar that was once a stop on the Silk Road.It is the gateway of Central Asia. It is a nation defined by its natural beauty. Amazing landscapes, stark craggy ridges and rolling jailoos (summer pastures) are brought to life by semi-nomadic, yurt-dwelling shepherds.

Over 90% of the land in Tajikistan is upland with some of the most inspiring, high-altitude landscapes in the world. In among this natural marvel are scattered villages and towns that survive through each extreme seasonal condition. It hasn’t been easy for these traditional communities to adapt to the changing world beyond their mountain strongholds, but despite this they are unfailingly welcoming of outsiders.
