For 2020, I am organising some very exciting photography workshops to some of the best landscape locations in the world. All details, including brochures, itineraries, dates, prices and conditions for each of the tours can be seen below. The workshops have been designed for anyone with a keen interest in travel and nature photography and a sense of adventure. Most workshops will be focused on landscape photography but there will also be opportunities to photograph other subjects such as architecture and people.

I work with some of the best photography instructors all over the world. Unlike many other workshops, our tours are fully devoted to the pursuit of photography. We are actually not a tour in the traditional sense of the word, our goal is to be at the right spot at the right time and to provide an incredible photography experience.

All levels of photographers are welcomed, from the absolute beginner to the experienced photographer. We will assist you out in the field with the camera skills needed to capture those incredible moments. Regardless of your level and your camera equipment, you will improve your skills as a photographer and you will learn the craft with an expert team.

Patagonia in Autumn with Tony Hewitt, 18 - 28 March 2020

Patagonia in Autumn with Tony Hewitt, 18 - 28 March 2020

This will be my eighth trip to Patagonia and I am very honoured to organise it together with an Australian photography GM of Photography: Tonny Hewitt.

The mountains of Patagonia provide some of the world's most inspiring scenic photography and are a destination all serious nature photographers should shoot at least once in a lifetime. The unpredictable weather of the southern hemisphere's autumn season produces a wide variety of dramatic lighting conditions and Autumn certainly is the best time of the year to photograph Patagonia and its incredible mountains and glaciers.

The postcard-perfect landscapes of El Chaltén have named this little town as “the trekking capital of Argentina”. It is a hiking paradise and the trails around Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre are incredibly scenic. It is a network of world-class trails that will take you to breath-taking lookouts and especially in autumn, the colors of this National Park are just amazing.

In this itinerary will cover all the iconic locations for photography at the right times of day with the best light, but we will also enjoy the culture of the region. Ignacio Palacios has travelled the region countless times, and you will learn about its history and its customs.

Svalbard, The High Arctic, Ice and Bear Winter Expedition, with Ken Duncan. 23 April - 1 May 2020 - ONLY 9 SPOTS LEFT

Svalbard, The High Arctic, Ice and Bear Winter Expedition, with Ken Duncan. 23 April - 1 May 2020 - ONLY 9 SPOTS LEFT

I am teaming up with Ken Duncan to run a photography workshop in Svalbard, in November 2020. Places are limited to 12 participants and the first 3 spots have already been sold.

This place will take your breath away...

Svalbard is a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean situated north of mainland Europe about midway between continental Norway and the North Pole. It features an Arctic climate, although with significantly higher temperatures than other areas at the same latitude. The flora takes advantage of the long period of midnight sun to compensate for the polar night. It is a breeding ground for many seabirds, and also features polar bears, reindeer, the Arctic fox, and certain marine mammals. Seven national parks and twenty-three nature reserves cover two-thirds of the archipelago, protecting the largely untouched, yet fragile, natural environment. Approximately 60% of the archipelago is covered with glaciers, and the islands feature many mountains and fjords.

Itinerary and Dates

The focus on this expedition will be Arctic winter light, landscape and wildlife. In April the light conditions on Svalbard are magical. The plan is to visit the western and northern areas of Spitsbergen. Usually winter trips to Svalbard are limited to snowmobiles quite close to Longyearbyen. With our expedition ship we will explore a much bigger area. We expect to meet wildlife like polar bears, walruses, seals and reindeer. Polar bears and walrus are not as numerous as in summer time, mostly because there is more ice to hide on in winter, but we’ve had some great encounters on our winter expeditions in the past. The seabirds are getting back to their breeding grounds.

The group size is limited to 12 participants plus two photography instructors and our guides giving us plenty of space and time to explore and to photograph the magical Arctic winter.

23 April - 1 May 2020

The trip includes all nights onboard the M/S Origo, all meals onboard, expedition leader, guide, guards and other personnel as well as all excursions with two zodiacs.

Who should go on this photographic tour?

Anyone with a keen interest in travel and nature photography and a sense of adventure. In this workshop we will focus on both landscape and wildlfie photography.

The Registration Form must be filled in and signed by each participant at the time of paying the first deposit.

Patagonia in winter with Luke Austin, 18 - 27 July 2020

Patagonia in winter with Luke Austin, 18 - 27 July 2020

This will be my nineth trip to Patagonia and I am very honoured to organise it together with my friend and Light Collective member Luke Austin.

The mountains of Patagonia provide some of the world's most inspiring scenic photography and are a destination all serious nature photographers should shoot at least once in a lifetime. The unpredictable weather of the southern hemisphere's produces a wide variety of dramatic lighting conditions and winter certainly is one the best times of the year to photograph Patagonia and its incredible mountains and glaciers. The opportunities to see pumas and wildlife in the parks at this time of the year are also greater.

Chilean Patagonia is an amazing area of unlimited and unspoiled nature. Torres del Paine is a national park known for its soaring mountains, electric-blue icebergs that cleave from glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and golden pampas (lowlands) that shelter rare wildlife such as guanacos, pumas and condors. The three granite towers from which the park takes its name and the horn-shaped peaks called Cuernos del Paine are some of its most iconic sites.

Fitz Roy mountain in Argentina is the highest spire in a compact range of granite (granodiorite) peaks in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, that remains among the most technically challenging mountains to climb on Earth and it can be seen from El Chaltén. The word Chaltén comes from a Tehuelche word meaning “smoking mountain”, due to a cloud that usually forms around its peak.

Perito Moreno is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes system shared with Chile. This ice field is the world’s third largest reserve of fresh water after Antarctica and Greenland. The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that is growing. It is very famous because of its dynamic changes, which produces a cyclic phenomenon of forward and backward movement, with spectacular ice falls from its front walls.

Itinerary and Dates

18 - 27 July 2020 - Pta. Arenas, Torres del Paine National Park, El Calafate (Perito Moreno Glacier), El Chaltén (Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy, Maestri camp, Poincenot camp), El Calafate - Punta Arenas.

The trip includes full 10 days in Argentina and Chile with all land content. Four/five star hotels in Chile and Argentina and two nights camping, all meals, local travel (minibus) and transfers. Tents and sleeping bags provided.

The Silk Route, Central Asia (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan) - September / October 2020

The Silk Route, Central Asia (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan) - September / October 2020

Central Asia is a region that sparks curiosity, intrigue, and adventure. An expedition across Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will take you across borders, over high mountain passes, and into remote communities, all while growing your photography skills.

You will see this iconic land at its best and if your partner is not a keen photographer, we would invite you to bring her/him along as you will both enjoy the rich photo opportunities as well as an amazing cultural experience and natural wonders.

With its beautiful light, wild landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Central Asia will feed the imagination of any traveler/ photographer.

Kyrgyzstan is a rugged Central Asian country along the Silk Road, the ancient trade route between China and the Mediterranean. The Tian Shan mountains, which surround the old caravan route and dominate the country, are home to snow leopards, lynx and sheep. In the south, the millennia-old city of Osh has a huge, busy bazaar that was once a stop on the Silk Road.It is the gateway of Central Asia. It is a nation defined by its natural beauty. Amazing landscapes, stark craggy ridges and rolling jailoos (summer pastures) are brought to life by semi-nomadic, yurt-dwelling shepherds.

Over 90% of the land in Tajikistan is upland with some of the most inspiring, high-altitude landscapes in the world. In among this natural marvel are scattered villages and towns that survive through each extreme seasonal condition. It hasn’t been easy for these traditional communities to adapt to the changing world beyond their mountain strongholds, but despite this they are unfailingly welcoming of outsiders.
