When I photograph landscapes, my approach is different to portrait photography. While the subject and the composition are important, resolution and light quality come first. This means using a sturdy tripod, a medium format camera and doing a lot of planning around the location.
Patience, dedication and a bit of luck are as important as the right camera, lenses and tripod. I like shooting at sunrise and sunset waiting for the perfect light. At sunrise there are no people around and it is so satisfying to watch the day unfold and witness the magical light of dawn. However, I believe that there is no bad or good light and always work with what is available and try to get the most out of it.
I like the creativity and effects that Photoshop can add to the picture and often I enjoy experimenting to add a bit of originality and personal style.
When I shoot landscapes, I don’t tire of returning to the same locations to shoot new pictures of the same subject with different types of light, in different seasons, with different lenses and with different points of view and perspectives. I often discover new ways, approaches and techniques of taking images that I have never tried before.
The nature gallery shows a collection of some of my best landscapes and nature pictures. Many of them have been taken in Australia and New Zealand, countries where I have been lucky enough to spend a considerable amount of time and countries that I love for their natural beauty and wilderness.
A couple of my pictures have been finalist in the landscape category of the most important wildlife photography competition in the world (Veolia Wildlife Photographer of the Year). Both pictures were panoramic landscapes taken in Australia. Australian Geographic has recently shorlisted my work to be part of their publications.
