2018/2019 WORKSHOPS

For 2020, I am organising some very exciting photography workshops to some of the best landscape locations in the world. All details, including brochures, itineraries, dates, prices and conditions for each of the tours can be seen below. The workshops have been designed for anyone with a keen interest in travel and nature photography and a sense of adventure. Most workshops will be focused on landscape photography but there will also be opportunities to photograph other subjects such as architecture and people.

I work with some of the best photography instructors all over the world. Unlike many other workshops, our tours are fully devoted to the pursuit of photography. We are actually not a tour in the traditional sense of the word, our goal is to be at the right spot at the right time and to provide an incredible photography experience.

All levels of photographers are welcomed, from the absolute beginner to the experienced photographer. We will assist you out in the field with the camera skills needed to capture those incredible moments. Regardless of your level and your camera equipment, you will improve your skills as a photographer and you will learn the craft with an expert team.

"The March 2014 Patagonia workshop was an excellent way for me to get to some of the best photographic locations in Patagonia. Secondly, the workshop enabled me to capture great landscapes and associated flora and fauna images. Thirdly, it enabled me to learn and increase my technical and creative skills in photography with subject matter experts. The workshop’s facilitators provided ongoing advice, support and ideas that challenged my way of thinking when photographing as well as providing me an almost encyclopaedic reference of new and relevant information to develop my photographic knowledge and skills. An enjoyable and very educational trip!"

“If you are looking for a wonderful photographic adventure led by the internationally renowned photographers Ignacio Palacios and Peter Eastway, this is the trip to do. The southern part of South America with its huge variety of scenery can be a photographer’s paradise: desert-like plains, snow-capped mountains, stunning glaciers and glacial lakes – all crying out to be photographed. And with the support and helpful comments from people like Ignacio and Peter – photographers at the top of their profession – this was indeed a workshop not be missed. A terrific experience – thank you!”

“In April 2015 I was very fortunate to experience the wilds of Patagonia – Patagonia in autumn is extraordinary.  We were treated to perfect autumn weather – every one of the major peaks we visited, Torres del Paine, Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torro, were clearly visible as we stood before the magnificence of these amazing natural structures. And on our visits to Grey Glacier and Perito Moreno we had near perfect conditions – a rarity, especially for Perito Moreno, which is only clear on five days of every year. This brilliant photography tour was led by Ignacio Palacios and Richard I’Anson. I cannot express my gratitude enough to both for their absolute professionalism, generosity in terms of their time and willingness to share their expertise and for making this such a fun and exciting experience.”

  • Customer Testimonial

“This was a fantastic photography adventure, one of the best I have experienced. What a treat to have the guidance of Ignacio Palacios and Richard I’Anson. Their different approaches to capturing images and post processing provided a rich learning environment and prompted useful discussions and personal reflection. The itinerary was designed to maximize optimal lighting conditions for sunrise and sunset which in Patagonia is breathtaking. Lower tourist numbers at that time of the year made travel easier and gave us more time for a pisco sour or two. Getting up close and personal with magnificent glaciers, staying in a refugio, waiting for early light to hit the peaks, long hikes amidst the colours of autumn in El Chaltén and marveling at the most magic cloud formations were just a few of the highlights.”

“Kamchatka was a very memorable and unique tour. It included wildlife, bears, landscapes, adventure and helicopters. Ignacio put together the best of what Kamchatka has to offer. He also provided assistance with photography, composition, and photo editing.  Ignacio is an extraordinary photographer and instructor, and his passion for photography, combined with his photo editing knowledge enables everyone to achieve a very unique experience. I would highly recommend Kamchatka with Ignacio as their tour leader.  I have booked a second tour with Ignacio as I was very impressed with his leadership, photographic and editing knowledge, and ability to keep the group interested and wanting more each day. Thank you Ignacio for an incredible trip of a lifetime”

"I went to Patagonia with Ignacio in March of 2018.  This was my third workshop with him.  The first two were outstanding but this one was even more outstanding. His selection of the right spots to get the best shots were perfect. He would always take us to several spots to photograph the same landscape  from different prospectives.  Each location  offered the possibility of an award winning picture. I came back from this trip with so many best shots.   When I showed my pictures to my friends they would say you got some really unbelievable shots. What made the difference was the composition Ignacio help me select. I’m really looking forward to my next workshop with him."

Lapland (Finland), Winter Wonderland: 6 - 14 Feb 2019 with Richard I'Anson

Lapland (Finland), Winter Wonderland: 6 - 14 Feb 2019 with Richard I'Anson

I am teaming up with Canon Master Richard I'Anson to run a photography workshop in Finland in February 2019.

Finland: the land of snow and ice – extreme conditions and breathtaking displays of nature. For a photographer this arctic photo tour is the ultimate experience. At this time of the year the forests of the Finnish Lapland becomes a surrealistic kingdom bathed in snow and ice. Trees turn into sculptures, and the northern lights cover the skies. Finland in winter is a dreamy landscape; it is the winter portrayed in its purest form.

The atmosphere in far north is unique because of the short winter days. The locations we are visiting have been carefully planned, providing outstanding possibilities for landscape and wildlife photography. Because of short winter days the blue soft light makes landscape images very special.

Capture the beautifully snow covered Taiga forests in Kuusamo and the opportunity to witness and photograph Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), a magical and colorful display on the sky.

Itinerary and Dates

The tour commences and ends in Kuusamo (6-14 Feb 2019).

All levels of photographers are welcome. We will be providing instruction on all aspects of image capture and post processing and it does not really matter whether you are a beginner or an expert photographer. We welcome all levels of photographers using equipment from mobile phones & tablets, compact cameras to digital SLR cameras.

During the workshop, we will have the opportunity to process and enhance your images. If the weather is good, we will be out photographing but there are always opportunities to sit down and work on your images when we are in the hotel.

There will be critique sessions and the purpose of them will be to offer one’s impression of a photo. During the session we will have professional views your work with a constructive evaluation to include feedback, suggestions and tips.

The Registration Form must be filled in and signed by each participant at the time of paying the first deposit.

Peru, Land of the Incas - 18 - 30 May 2019 with Tom Putt

Peru, Land of the Incas - 18 - 30 May 2019 with Tom Putt

I am teaming up with Tom Putt to run a photography workshop to one of the most beautiful countries in South America: Peru.

This photography workshop is a unique opportunity to visit some of the most amazing places on this planet. This includes the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and the White Mountain Range, the most concentrated collection of big peaks in the Western Hemisphere and the highest mountain in Peru.

Traveling with Ignacio, you will see this iconic land at its best and if your partner is not a keen photographer, I would invite you to bring her/ him along as you will both enjoy the rich photo opportunities, as well as an amazing cultural experience and natural wonders. With its wild landscapes, and rich cultural heritage, Peru will feed the imagination of any traveler/ photographer.

Highlights

The Machu Picchu was declared as one of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World on July 7th, 2007. This majestic Sanctuary belongs to the List of World Heritage of Unesco since 1983. Machu Picchu is the most representative touristic attraction of Peru and regarded as a masterpiece of architecture and engineering.

- Cuzco. Visit to the Coricancha museum (Sun temple) and the Sacsayhuaman fortress and wonder around this beautiful town.

- The most popular way to experience the White Mountain Range is to hike the Santa Cruz Trek, considered by many as one of the best hiking routes in the world. This 50km trail takes you through open valleys, passed high snowcapped mountain peaks along rivers and the shores of brightly colored lagoons.

- Rainbow Mountain or Vinicunca is one of the most spectacular places in the Cordillera Vilcanota, as it keeps a natural color that is given by the presence of sedimentary rocks that are eroding. What’s impressive is how the stones have been formed to create a set of seven colors, also known as Cerro Colorado. The rainbow mountain was ranked by National Geographic as one of the 100 places you must visit before you die, due to the beautiful colors.

Tour dates: 18 - 30 May 2019

Brazil Highlights: Dunes, Jungles and Falls - 2-18 June 2019 with Ken Duncan and Tom Alves

Brazil Highlights: Dunes, Jungles and Falls - 2-18 June 2019 with Ken Duncan and Tom Alves

Tour Brazil several world heritage sites including Iguazu Falls, Rio de Janeiro, the Amazon, Pantanal and Lençós Maranhenses National Park by air, boat and jeeps. Traveling with Ignacio, Ken and Tom, you will see this iconic land at its best and if your partner is not a keen photographer, we would invite you to bring her/him along as you will both enjoy the rich photo opportunities as well as an amazing cultural experience and natural wonders. With its wild landscapes, wildlife and rich cultural heritage, Brazil will feed the imagination of any traveler/photographer.

Tour Highlights

- Rio de Janeiro is a huge seaside city in Brazil, famed for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, 38m Christ the Redeemer statue atop Mount Corcovado and for Sugarloaf Mountain, a granite peak with cable cars to its summit. Part of the city has been designated as a World Heritage Site as a Cultural Landscape.

- The Iguazu Falls, are the largest waterfalls system in the world. They are simply amazing. The name “Iguazú” comes from the Guarani or Tupi words “y” meaning “water”, and “ûasú “, meaning “big”. Consisting of approximately 257 individual falls over 2.7 kilometers, the Iguazu falls were chosen as one of the new natural seven wonders of the world.

- Pantanal (UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a natural region encompassing the world’s largest tropical wetland area. This is a better place to see wildlife than the Amazon. The dense foliage of the Amazon makes it hard to observe the animals, unlike the open marshes of the Pantanal. These marshes are home to an huge variety of life, from jaguars to jabiru storks, so if you like to see animals in their natural environment, the Pantanal is the destination.

- Lençóis Maranhenses National Park - Lying just outside the Amazon Basin, the region has a regular rainy season at the beginning of the year. The rains cause a peculiar phenomenon: fresh water collects in the valleys between sand dunes and is prevented from percolating down by a layer of impermeable rock underneath the sand. The result is a vast network of blue, green, and black lagoons surrounded by white sands and bordered by a river and an ocean.

Some tour highlights

- Lalibela: The legends say that, 1,000 years ago, a poisoned man was carried to heaven by the angels and shown a breathtaking city of rock-hewn churches. He was then commanded by God to return to Earth and recreate what he had seen. The result was Lalibela. Easily the No 1 attraction in Ethiopia, and one of the architectural wonders of Africa.

- Erta Ale is a continuously active basaltic shield volcano in the Afar Region of northeastern Ethiopia. It is situated in the Afar Depression, a badland desert area spanning the border with Eritrea. Erta Ale is notable for holding the longest-existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century.

- Danakil Depression is an impressive area of geological fascination, a place dotted with active volcanoes, hot springs, lava lake, salted basins and above all lunar landscapes. It is a vast unpopulated region that lies below the sea level, it’s the lowest point in all of Africa and the second lowest in the world.

 - Simien Mountains National Park was added to the world heritage site list in 1978. It has 57 tree species, variety of herbaceous plants, 22 large, 13 small mammals and about 180 bird species have been recorded; from these Walia ibex, Ethiopian wolf, Menelik’s Bushbuck and the Gelada baboon are endemic
