Camel Herder of Ladakh, India

Ladakh is the land of the high passes and one of the most stunning parts of the Himalayas between Pakistan, Tibet, China and India’s Himachal Pradesh. North of Leh, lies a beautiful valley comprising huge mountains, yawning valleys and vast uninhabited hinterlands. This is an image that I took whilst running a photography workshop around Ladakh with a group of intrepid photographers. In the picture, a camel herder who happily agreed to pose for us, and took his camel for a stroll around the top of some beautiful sand dunes at sunset. The Bactrian or double-humped camel is one of the last remnants of the Silk Road trade in India. In the background, the amazing peaks of the Himalayas. The light was truly special, and we took hundreds of images.
